Description
I don't remember what I used to begin this digital piece, but it was a photograph of something that I played with until I had some interesting color and texture surrounding a black hole. That's where I left it for a long time because I couldn't figure out where to go next. The image I had made reminded me of an ancient ceramic urn or vessel, but I needed something to go in the vessel. Yesterday I decided the vessel wasn't empty-- it had an infinity of space and time inside. So I added some recent fractal creations, some on the vessel itself and some floating in the inner space. It's a logical impossibility in the natural world for the inside of a bottle to be larger than the bottle, but that's the idea here. In spiritual and theological writings some apparently illogical notions (natural world) are routinely understood as the shape of the spiritual world-- the more you give, the more you have, for instance, or Jesus' statement that "The Kingdom of Heaven is within you" or a traditional Christmas text that describes Mary's womb as "containing him who nothing can contain." It's a notion that has given me plenty of food for thought and I'm glad to see it showing up in my artwork.
