Description
Orchids are one of the two largest families of flowering plants on earth and come in an enormous variety of colors and shapes, though always with bilateral symmetry. This one, sometimes called a moth orchid, is popular because it is easier to grow and care for than some. This Phalaenopsis, or white phal, was photographed where it was grown-- on a window sill on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
