Description
I took this photograph one evening as I was sitting on a porch fronting one of the Hudson canals in Pasco County, Florida. I don't know what kind of birds these were, but I think starlings would be a reasonable guess.
I found a relevant question and answer in a blog by glennsbirding dated February 29, 2012 (https://gobirdingecotours.wordpress.com/2012/02/29/why-do-birds-huddle-on-power-lines/):
Why do those swarming birds (starlings?) huddle so closely together on power lines even when it’s warm?
What you’re seeing is a flocking behavior called “staging,” which happens in bird migration. Flocking offers birds protection from predators, and sitting close together, or staging, does, too. While they might not be actively migrating at the time you see them, their instinctually exhibit migratory behaviors.

I see this occasionally, too, but never have my camera handy. It always amazes me that they don't get an electric shock sitting on these hot wires! Great capture, Sarah! l/f

Great, great find and capture, Sarah ... Beautiful colors as well. I know a lot of people don't like starlings, but I find them very comical and during part of the year, very colorful!!!! Love this!!! l/f
